| Our experience was when we calved in Feb. (to get heavier calves in the fall) we were buying every extra pound by increased supplemental feeding. Calves born on green grass actually had a higher weight per day of age meaning they and the cow were more efficient because she wasn't using energy to stay warm and raise a calf at the same time. Some feel like turning bulls out and breeding in hot weather affects conception rates but we never saw it in CO. | |
