45 years ago it was old technology, now it's antique and shouldn't be done IMO.
I could still see the logic behind it, if you're never planning to expand beyond 20 milking cows. For example, a small grazing herd with a niche milk market would benefit by running everyone as a single group, and the ability to custom-feed each heifer, steer, and cow could make the additional milking effort and cleaning effort worth it. Though in that case, I'd wonder if the barn could be partitioned so that the whole thing doesn't need to be maintained at grade-A standards. |
