Don't do it. I know you didn't ask, but I am going to say it anyway. You're not helping your future by building one. It's not better on cattle or makes them produce more. It's worse on the milker. Expansion is more difficult, it takes more workers per milking cow, milk buyers are adding more requirements to pass for them to buy your milk. The list is long.

My dad had a tie stall barn bought and waiting to be built. Luckily the ag teacher talked him into looking at and eventually building a freestyle barn, and that was 1980. He's mentioned it many times and is always happy he switched. 45 years ago it was old technology, now it's antique and shouldn't be done IMO.
