Southern Indiana | Yeap our fair was always end of July so we always wanted laterish January pigs... Showing hogs was a big deal in this county years ago when I was in. Few hundred hogs generally. At the end we AI'd sows to try for some that looked a little nicer than just our regular commercial pigs (which looked pretty good anyway). I won two reserve grand breeding gilts and one grand champion barrow. I'll never forget winning grand champion barrow. Dad was watching from outside looking over the wood wall from between the show arena and the swine barn. Judge was heading for the box to get the microphone and I walked my barrow in front of him one last time. He stopped and gave him another lookover and i think he changed his mind.. Walked up and shook my hand.. All I heard was dad throwing his arms up shouting YESSSSS!!! Think he always looked for and wanted a grand champion to come off our farm and it finally happened... | |
