Rust is an oxide and as such is abrasive. If you do try a band saw, use a bimetal blade. The cheaper blades won’t tolerate rust and hard spots.

I have an abrasive chop saw and it gathers dust in a corner since I bought a real bandsaw. Pull it out only to deal with total junk that might wreck a bandsaw blade.
