Kind of like Smokey Yunick's recommendation that an engine should have 10 lbs of oil pressure for every 1000 RPM...a good rule of thumb, but not 100% accurate in all situations.


Maybe for a gasser, but not even close for a diesel. There's no way a diesel would survive pulling with 15 PSI oil pressure at 1500 RPM.


No kidding. The 6NZ Cat in our Pete runs 40 psi at idle (700 rpm) and 65 psi at 1300 rpm and above. That's with an oil temp of 165°F.
