Subject: RE: How to do Floor Heat?

coast of Maine
One of my self installs was done on the super cheap.Friend gave me an oil fired water heater(common here) put it mid room along a wall, metal bestos chimney thru roof.Used 275 gallon fuel tank used.About 8 ft along wall away from water heater.Copper line with filter and fire-omatic valve on both tank and heater burner,2 circulators,a line from water supply into water heater, 2 circulators, both tied to a wall thermostat.(line voltage thermostats) a small expansion tank in return(maybe it was a gallon or 2) couple ball valves in pex lines,2 zones out and back.one circulator per run, floor was a wash bay 18x95 -16 ft ceiling,I think all in the most $$ spent was on the chimney. Most other stuff scrounged or had cheap. You can add a larger nozzle to oil burner but we stayed with a .85 GPH.Slick ,Cheap.maybe 10 years,,then a GMC pickup diesel ,self cranked(lousy computers),burned shop and wash bay down.Post fire I plugged the pex inlets into the floor and added antifreeze with thought of using in rebuild,They were stlll fine, abandoned the idea, used another building for a shop.Built a dry storage over that old concrete and pex lines are still in there.
