Hello,

Linux OS allows you to try before installing it on a HDD or SSD.

Hopefully this helps you. I recommend Ubuntu|Linux Mint OS. On a PC download OS ISO (free), from either site, then use a tool like Rufus or Balena etcher to make a bootable USB stick download for either tools are free. After you download the OS and iso tools to make a bootable usb. Make your bootable OS. Once you've created your bootable USB stick. Restart your PC, with the usb in back of the PC. It should technically boot to install or try it first option. If your PC doesn't boot to USB OS, you may have to configure your bios to boot from USB vs HDD(SSD).

To answer a few questions. Linux is free. Open Source software, no limit to use. install on many PCs as many as you want.

The reason i recommend these, they both are easy to use. They have the option to install "WINE", when people are trying to transition to Linux and are more familair with Window apps. Wine allows you to use windows apps on Linux. It isn't perfect works great.

Libre office (Free) - Works like MS office -There is a little bit of learning curve. But works fine.
Add any printer - Works fine
Wifi works great
There is no blaotware on like windows. All the advertisements and other crap that windows installs.

Last but not least, google search or use youtube to help you solve any other problems.

Linux Desktop versions is what i recommend. Ubuntu | Linux mint operate similar to Windows desktop.
