| If I am busy, I let the answering machine take the call - that is what it is there for. However, for the times that I do answer the phone, I listen...... A lot of these calls are computer generated; once you pick up the phone to answer, that call is transferred to a person on the other end. (At least that is my understanding.) If that call is computer generated, there will be a split-second dead silence until it rings again to the telemarketer. I have learned how to listen for that. So, when I answer the phone, I listen immediately for a person to be on the other end. If there is not, I hang up. My thinking is that if I inadvertanly hang up on someone who wants to talk with me, they can call back (and I can apologize). But I don't need to apologize for hanging up on a computer-generated call. |
