I have personal experience as well as know personally other people who have also had positive health benefits (other than weight management) from a ketogenic diet that causes nutritional ketosis. In this video Dr Bret Scher gives studies and data that support nutritional ketosis as a medical intervention for many non infectious medical conditions with positive results. A good presentation worth watching.

I have said more than once my wife and I went on a ketogenic diet to lose weight, which we did. But in retrospect I believe weight loss was just a side effect. We became more healthy and it was our more healthy state that allowed our bodies to do what they naturally should be able to do, and that is control weight naturally.
