Texas | Cattle picking up 2 months calving.
I’ve always heard cows pick up a month on wheat, but last year we moved to wheat December 11th. Had a few calves early January, but most were feb and march. This year I started November 12th with one straggler. We left town for vacation Monday. I fed cows Monday morning and tagged 3 fresh heifer calves. I have poor records from last spring due to an injury that caused me to be out for about a month. But 2 of the cows I have records for 2nd week of January calving. Seems like a lot of days to pick up.
I even had a heifer that we pulled the uterus out of last summer drop a calf! She was worth $400 when it happened and sure glad I didn’t haul her to town then.
