First question, they lambed in April and did well. He has had a ram in with them since wearing time. I didn’t think Finn’s were seasonal breeders but they sure don’t look bred to me. We are using the same ram as last year so I know he can get the job done. Any chance they got bred this summer or would they just be coming into heat now?
Second, the Finn’s have a great disposition and he has sold some lambs to other people interested in Finn’s but they sure don’t look like much of a meat type lamb to me. Is there anything we can cross them with to get a good meat type lamb or does he just need to start with some new genetics?
He got the Finns because he liked the color that they have. It drives me nuts because I like cookie-cutter livestock that’s bred for a purpose, not animals that are bred for the pet market. But he’s young so I let him do his thing. I would like to encourage him to make this more of an enterprise and not just a bunch of pasture pets.
