Subject: Vomintoxin in corn/calf feed

Thumb of Michigan
I had a 4H father come over to get some of my hay because his son's 4H calf has the diarrhea bad. He is feeding the same grain mix that he has been, that he gets from a local elevator. Nothing else changed in the calf's diet EXCEPT a new batch of feed last Friday, calf started (and still has diarrhea) last Saturday.

I know from another local farmer that vomitoxin is present in local harvested corn to the point that they are docking the corn price. We were also seeing the mold on corn several weeks ago from other farmers.

My thinking is that he could be experiencing some vomitoxin in the feed, because of the possibility of the elevator using new crop corn. Is my thinking wrong?

If not, what is course of action (being most likely all local corn is most likely to have vomitoxin present this year)?

TIA
