NW Missouri | I don't know all the stipulations, but in the 90s if you had a for-hire trucking business in MO, you didn't pay sales tax on anything licensed above 26k. My parents had about a dozen semis on the road at the time and always licensed their pickups for 26k. Then they bought a ford conversion van and they licensed it for 26k too. Got pulled over a couple times in the van for not having a rear license plate (in MO you only get a front plate at that weight). But it was all within the rules.
Either that rule got changed, or it doesn't apply if you aren't for-hire. They still have a couple trucks that we haul our own stuff with, but they don't license their pickups for 26k anymore, unless they're actually going to use them for that. | |
