NorthWest Indiana | When I hired kids (my grandkids fit the bill now) I paid by the job. You can weed out the non workers pretty quick. For instance, a box stall with maybe two wheelbarrow loads of manure, 20 bucks. Stacking firewood, depended on the amount. Ended up with two different excellent boys and when they would get done if I had another job would tell them to look it over and bid it. Generally they were low and I would explain my thoughts and go with the higher amount. Many times on hard jobs that they dug in and got done I would give a bonus. Large jobs, paid 1/4 up front (if they needed gas money to get here) then half when 3/4 done and the rest on completion. | |
