I get a good laugh out of all the twitter/millennial farmers who think their corn is on life support every day. It’s obvious they haven’t farmed very long. One of them was yacking on a social media site yesterday about some “rootless corn syndrome” or something like that. He was trying to convince everyone it was everywhere. Nope, it’s not everywhere. Only if you planted 1” deep in wet conditions, like the pictures showed. He may of been from your neighborhood actually.
Actually, that's not necessarily true. In 2021 we had a large about of rootless corn. We were stupid hot end of may into late June, humidities down in the teens during the afternoons. When the corn shooting it nodular roots, the ground was too hot and too dry to support them so they just up and terminated. We had a bad storm roll though with lots of wind that made it obvious how bad it was. Luckily we got a half inch and that was enough for the next node to take and it made corn. And they were plante at 2.5" because it was dry when we planted.
