I think you should do whatever you can to keep your dad farming. Nothing worse in my opinion than a child pressuring a parent to retire before they are ready. If you want to farm full time buy the equipment and start renting ground or doing custom work.
I wouldn't feel bad about taking your ground back and farming it. Sounds like your dad doesn't need the acres to make a living.
