Subject: RE: Monday June 18th 2012

S Illinois
I am not in MN and 2/3 of my corn was a zero and got disked down, but like he said it was the heat in that forecast that was the killer. That was almost 2 straight weeks of 100+ as pollination tried to happen in that Jun 27 through July 10 time frame. Rain on Jun 15th (edit: and normal temps following)would have meant a normal or better crop locally. Even with all the dryness from May-June 16X40 ears were on the plants. The plants however were unable to shed enough pollen and sync the nic up so pollination failed. Yield loss was minimal prior to Jun 15th.

So Dak had some very good pictures and a timeline a few years ago as to what corn plants can endure as long as moisture and cooler temps come right at tasseling time.

Edit 2: May 1 2012 we were in D0 drought. June 1 D1 and then D3 by July 1
