Subject: RE: Land Prices

East Central South Dakota
Someone on here posted this and I copied and saved it. Thanks to whoever. I think it is so simply accurate.

Land is for storing wealth, not generating it. Once you have your operation capitalized well enough and generating wealth, you have to store it somewhere, and land is as good and safe as anything out there.

That is one of the big changes in Agriculture today. When I was your age, you could buy land here and it paid its own way. Today up here land has to be subsidized greatly from land that is paid for if you don't have the cash. If you don't have the cash and have to subsidize it, hard to grasp it is a good investment. I think this is one of the issues I really struggle with in Agriculture today. One of the parameters of it all is a whole lot of farmers in my area just want to work every day of their lives. It is what they enjoy doing and they are always looking for more to do regardless of economic returns that make sense, which is totally fine, but a little out of my wheelhouse.
