We like to plant after memorial day. In our area, a lot of the time the later planted beans will hang on a little longer and get past the July-August heat better than earlier planted ones. It is a crap shoot every year trying to guess if or when it might rain.

Um. Don't get this statement. Why not just plant a later maturing/group variety?

Because 8 out of 10 years later planted will out yield earlier planted. Doesn't matter the maturity when the early planted beans burn up. 3.7-4.3 maturity planted after memorial day seems to work the best for us. May not be that way elsewhere, but gives us the best shot to grow a good crop.
