Latimer, Iowa (north central) | I was giving you a hard time there but in all seriousness encouraging biological diversity is key to healthy soils. Mammals are some of the largest soil organisms we see. "There may be over 100,000 different types of organisms that live in soils. Most are providing numerous functions that assist plants, such as making nutrients more available, producing growth stimulating chemicals and helping for soil aggregates. A teaspoon of healthy agricultural soil can have up to 1 billion bacteria" Mother nature created our prairie soils. I don't know enough to think we should try and eliminate gophers with poison but would rather error with mother nature then poison.
