The smoke in the air was a big part of it, very hazy, never got that clear full sun. Northeast wind off the lake hasn't been helping. Last winter was mild, ground hardly froze, very thick hard crust. Ground wouldn't dry or warm up under that crust, but you couldn't field cultivate because under that crust was just mud.
