MT-ND | Book your hotel yesterday. Most of the brand name ones in Rapid are good.
The steam train is a good one, not exactly what I was expecting but good anyways. Depending on fill, you may or may not be able to chose your seats. For what its worth, if you're thinking towards the back to see the engine as it goes around curves, you can only see it once or twice.
Rushmore was but wasn't busy when we went.
Needles and iron horse? Road are good.
Sturgis there isn't really much there. Its a small town that hosts an event, that's about it.
Deadwood is interesting, might as well see Bill Hickok's chair. Kids are allowed in bars during the day in that area of SD, if you are into western history.
Bring something to feed the donkeys, if you like animals. If not, ignore them when you go through there, that's Custer I think. If you try to ignore them and stop, they will visit you instead. They're "wild" and "not tame" but they aren't. They can be moody though.
If you stay in rapid, its almost central in a way.
If you stay in rapid or go that far north, take a detour to Devils tower, its not that far away and it is something to see up close. | |
