Subject: RE: Copper sulfate question

Faunsdale, AL
Copper sulfate won’t hurt them unless they drink it. If they drink much of it, it can kill them.

Sheep are very good at accumulating copper from the diet and storing it in the liver. Too much in the diet means too much accumulates and ruins the liver, liver releases lots of copper as the cells die and that ruins the kidneys and causes hemolytic anemia and the sheep dies. That’s why sheep feeds don’t have copper supplemented at the same levels like cattle feed. Copper sulfate in water is even more available than in dry feed.

Might give the wool a blue tint from washing but at normal rates I bet it would just make them look whiter.

Black tank won’t grow algae anyway though.
