Red Rock Canyon park and Death Valley are closer than Zion to Vegas. we enjoyed both, and did stay at the Zion Lodge a couple nights, and it is worth the trip out there ! I really liked the SW scenery a lot more than I thought I would. I'm not a gambler, so the Vegas trip was more about Hoover dam, a must see BTW, and the parks.
