Brown county MN | So everyone is essentially right, skip the cob. Chickens don't need high fiber, and it's filler for anything without a rumen, broilers don't thrive on filler.
What your local mill is likely to do, is use a premix and add it to ground corn.
Moms got a 100+ layer flock and we mix the ration on the farm in an arts way grinder mixer.
That ration, 16-17% is fine ground shelled corn and a 38% poultry premix,
Roughly 600lb/ton.
Broilers will take more protein, so the balance could be made up with plain soybean meal. But I'd grind everything as a mash, nice and fine, chickens are master sorters. We've even taken to slowly feeding a square bale or so of 3rd cutting alfalfa through the hammer mill in the winter and the birds seem to benefit from it. | |
