1996 was very dry for the wheat here, a lot did not come up until January, lots of wheat blew out here that year. That was the only time that I have seen wheat blow out here. I think you are confusing the 97 crop with 96. Our are has had 1.5 to 5 inches during the last week. Will help the wheat, but the drought already did lots of damage. Kernel counts per head are in 15 to 25 range, about half of what I saw last year. I think we will have yields in the 20s. The pigweeds have already come up in the wheat, dry weather from now until harvest would be good. |
