He’s talking about for the calves to stand on while at the bunk. Problem with gravel like that is you will eventually scrape off enough of it that it needs added to every year or so. How many times can you add gravel before concrete becomes cheaper.
However having lime/limestone gravel in your manure might help reduce needing to spread lime so that would offset some cost on that end.
