We have used rig/bog mats from the oil industry. Both as aprons and for driveways. They are 8x14, basically indestructible for this purpose. New is expensive but used can be had reasonably here.

Takes a pretty good tractor or a small wheel loader to lift them. Especially when wet. We use a modified rock fork to move but a purpose built mat grapple would be better. They are better than mud, but don’t look great & are difficult to clean off and around for pen maintenance.

We are replacing with concrete as time and budget allow.
