| What you have is a frost crack. In the spring the sap begins to run in the warm daytime, at night due to the bark being thing the sap freezes leaving a frost crack. Wrap the tree with tree wrap, burlap or a piece of tile. It will eventually heal itself, but do not paint, it will block the tree from properly healing. A little fertilizer would not hurt. I worked at a nursery in high school and college, and a few years part time after that. | |
