I did raise my prices somewhat at the beginning of the year. I'm comfortable with my current retail beef price levels. The main reason I got into selling retail in the first place is because I was tired of seeing my Herefords take a beating price wise at the auction.
What's changed is the market for live steers. The sale barn recently is presenting a more competitive priced market, even for good Herefords, which requires a lot less of my time than retail. Nice to have options. I'll continue with both markets as long as the sale barn price stays up and competitive.
even the farm to plate diehards are getting pulled into the commodity market
