Central Kansas
I am struggling with what to do with several of my wheat fields. Waiting until it is fully headed to make a decision. If I have appraised and they say it will make 10 bushels to the acre and I abandon it I get dinged the ten bushels off settlement or about $90 dollars an acre. If it costs me $30 an acre to harvest that gives me $60 more income. Appraising wheat always seems to get a larger potential yield then what happens. So do I harvest the places where there is wheat and leave the rest and turn in harvested production or take the appraisal and maybe get dinged in the end.

Unless it starts raining a bunch planting a crop behind these failed acres doesn't look very promising either and I could just incur additional costs. Our wheat is just starting to head out now. Will decide probably next week what to do.
