Dad came back from WW2 and had about 5 years to receive some GI money. He was able to use it to put a downpayment on some land that I still live on. I have no idea how much it was. Probably not much back then but land didn't cost much either. I know it was enough they searched pretty hard to find a place before that offer expired.
