Quebec, Canada | I was looking at a Pro700 getting serial GPS from a XCN-1050 yesterday. It was using RS232-B and had a DB9 wire plugged in the back of the Pro700. I was using an actisense converter to take the serial messages and translate them to CANBUS NMEA 2000 so I know for sure the XCN was outputting VTG and GGA messages. I didn’t see the satellite constellation in diagnostics so I’m guessing GSV was not being sent over from the XCN system.
There is a ground wire in the DB9 so I wonder when this lack of a ground would actually cause an issue. In this grower’s case both the XCN-1050 and the Pro700 are grounded back to the vehicle frame at some point so maybe it could be an issue if someone had a battery powered GPS source that wasn’t tied back into the vehicle’s electrical system? (This is speculation on my part, I’m not an electrical engineer or a CNH technician) | |
