The trouble with drought is when you guys get less than half your normal rain you grow nothing.
When the guy in Illinois gets half his normal rain he still has enough to grow a good crop as they are to wet any way.
I am just about 30 miles north of Omaha.
Last fall I dug over 10 ft deep to get dirt that would pack for terrace repair.
We had some nice rains this spring. Now the first 18 inches has good moisture. Then dry and hard down to about 7 ft then some moisture again.
That tells me we have enough to get up and going but we will need rain to get the roots down to 6 or 7 ft. Or at least get the moisture from above to pull the moisture from below.
