To start with it's fine if you want to have some metals in possession or your portfolio.  

However, what do you think you will do with it?   You going to the grocery store, buying land, or equipment with it?   Where are you going to exchange it for some useable form of tender to purchase things with?   Who is to even say it will be legal for you to have when the crap hits the fan and they kindly take it off your hands for .10 on the dollar.   

Again, no issues with having some but to think it's a safety net in times of trouble is a mistake.
