North Central Iowa | Yep, I would agree with tedbear, generally won’t work as you hope. Property lines and fences aren’t as straight or parallel as one would think or hope they might be. At least in Iowa, I’m sure they did the best they could, but surveying and walking across the state would not have been fun in the 1800s. And when and where they made the adjustments for longitude adjustments doesn’t seem super consistent either. Plus when the gravel roads went in, they made other adjustments to fences and road alignment as deemed necessary at the time.
I’ve spent a fair amount of time in SMS trying to create good field boundaries and set guidance lines along fences or property lines and most sides of a field aren’t parallel to the other side. | |
