Fine line to walk. I dealt with this a few years ago.

I have an over-achiever daughter also. She is always busy. I am amazed at the amount of people that ask about her because they heard from a friend or somebody that she is a great worker. Since she isn’t employed anywhere in town, they think she is sitting around. Then in the next sentence they have some menial job that they would love to have her come do for $12/hr. I tell them that for $12/hr I will send my 10 year old instead and their face puckers right up.

You wouldn't believe all the work we did for less....... a lot less$....Same for our kids We were taught to work and we also taught to work even if the pay wasn't great untill something better comes your way....it keeps you or the kids from getting arrogant....
That seems to be a real problem these days in the work community. Just look at the help wanted signs everywhere.Handouts screwed up a lot of thinking.
