Faunsdale, AL | The R terminal just bypasses the rectifier diodes so you can get current back into the alternator stator windings and create a magnetic field in the steel laminations. I would sure try it even though jumping to the #1 terminal on top is accomplishing the same thing through the regulator circuitry. I have always flashed the #1 terminal with it with it running. It’s possible the larger frame alternators can’t get enough current flow through the regulator to create the magnetic field needed. Works just fine on every one I’ve ever tried though.
So you have another one now? Has anyone properly bench tested any of them yet? I could see a bad batch of alternators getting out, but wouldn’t believe it unless I had properly tested the “bad” ones. | |
