I take it you meant they “owe” nothing if you walk away or for would have to give it up because of health or other unforeseen reasons?


You mention that, I have just 2 “lengthy and complicated lease contracts”, but they both have a bullet point that my father has the right to take over my contract if I cannot complete it for any reason. Both of them understand why and know my father well too though so it likely wouldn’t be an issue.

I think in my (lucky) case, my dad would farm the couple hundred acres in that situation and the 80 we own for my wife for free for a few years to try and get our money back out of them and to help her and the girls out till she could figure things out if something were to happen to me too. So I’m lucky to be in that spot for now. I understand not everyone is.
