| I am not much help with lodging between the two areas, as we always spent most of our time in Charleston. We always stayed at the sea cabins on isle of palms near Charleston. If you like history I would plan on spending plenty of time in Charleston. The ferry to Fort Sumpter is neat, as well as the USS Yorktown if you are able to go up and down plenty of steps. The Angel oak is a neat stop. Most of the plantation tours are pretty good. If you like good seafood they have plenty. The Wreck, Sullivan's, and Hymans are my three favorites. We have vacationioned in the Charleston area for decades and we still have not got tired of the area, but we are history buffs that love to eat sea food.
