Subject: RE: Oysters on the half shell

Pittsburg, Kansas
The only other time I tried them in my lifetime was when wife and I were on a snorkle trip on a boat that went to a tiny island off of Margarita Island, Venezuela. For lunch they had a very small BBQ grill on board the small boat. The first mate snorkeled, got a bunch of I presume oysters (that is what they looked like anyway), brought them on board and slightly roasted them on the grill. Popped them open and served them on deck. I think I ate one and chewed it up, trying not to chuck it overboard. That was the one and only one I ever ate till the other night here.

I've got to the point now they are tolerable, once you get past the look. I could survive, if I had to. Ribeye is definitely better. Even hamburger.

When I was a small child my mom used to buy canned oysters once in a great while. She loved them. I remember her trying to get me to try them, but don't remember for sure if I did or did not. Probably not. I was a difficult child most of the time.
