|I was a grad. student at one of the early Computers on the Farm conferences @ U. of Missouri-Columbia (1979? 1981?). In one of the sessions John Beckett, who had an Apple II, showed off a new piece of software he'd just bought--he had only played with it a bit, yet had lots of neat stuff to show us already. I remember him starting his presentation by saying "I'm not exactly sure what I'll be able to do with this program, but I think it has a lot of possibilities." |
He spent a few minutes of dazzling us with things we'd never seen or imagined from software...and by the end of the next day, both the Apple and Radio Shack computer stores in Columbia, MO had entirely sold out of VisiCalc...almost entirely to farmers who'd attended the conference. I took one home too...to run on my TRS-80 Model I.
