I read the the above responses and so far, did not see any comments about personal goals and what are the new goals after the house become an empty nest.
In my single life, I have goals that turn me on. I know I have barriers and limitations that make these goals a life long endeavor. I have to work to remove the barriers and limitations. This work, God willing, will be a part of me for rest of my life. It is my vocation.
I would think asking a home maker what new things are on the horizon that creates a sense of a full life is a good topic. For me, it is hard to speculate what comes next. Knowing these things is good especially if accepted openly without judgement. In my value system, doing a few household chores is nice, reinstating date night is fun too but these things do not replace the goal of raising kids to adulthood.
New goals, new vocation? Grow together, grow separately?
