I put a 42" stem wall under my quonset when we moved it in.   Used 5 x 6's and a 2 x 8.   The only thing I regret was not going up 60".   It's a lot cheaper than pouring concrete for a footing.

The extra height would make a quonset more attractive. I just wonder about whether the stem wall is strong enough to be able to support the quonset with maximum snow load. Quonset's don't always want to stay up even on concrete. Obviously has worked for you though.

Neighbour had snow damage to his at one point and repaired it. Later had more damage and removed it and built a large pole shed. Quonset was located in a very sheltered area where snow collected and did not blow off at all.
