Subject: RE: Rear Wheel Seal on Boxcar Magnum

Sioux County, NWIA
The bearings can be at zero play and still need attention. I was into Magnum style axles for leaking seals and found that the preload was down to zero. Bearing looked *ok* but there was no way I was going to put it back together without replacing the bearings, especially considering the consequences of a bearing failure. I think the bearings and seals cost me around $750 a couple years ago. You will need the correct equipment and the book specs to replace the bearing. It’s not a huge deal but not a ho hum project either.
