Neighbor bought a new red planter. It would not plant Virginia peanuts. Peanuts would bridge in hopper and unit would not plant those large sized nuts. His very experienced operator, while planting, would turn the planter around on the end and drop the planter down while stopped. Units would plug with dirt [soil] and seed would back up in the seed tube. Salesman said you must be moving forward before dropping planter to prevent plugging. Neighbor bought a green planter the following year and problems were solved.
I was taught 45 years ago not to drop the planter stopped. You can plug White and JD row units doing so, I can attest to that, and if you have speedtubes, you can tear a lug off the belt, $54 each time.
