Northeast Nebraska | I think mental health is the main issue, but then an easy access to firearms compounds the problem.
The mental health issues would not be cheap to address, but need to start somewhere. Even if teachers spot a potential issue and report it the backlog of cases make it so nothing is done for months if ever.
I'm not willing to give up my firearms, but I do think some sort of mental evaluation before purchasing a gun may be beneficial. The problem here is that anti-gun people would likely find a way to make a mental eval impossible to pass for a citizen to own a gun.
Encouraging highly qualified concealed carriers and reducing gun free zones may be a start as well...but every answer has its issues. | |
