| Several years ago a popular scam was for someone to buy an advertised product and provide a cashier's check for more than the amount of a purchase. The young woman who was the choir director for our church at the time had listed a keyboard for $800. Someone bought it and was going to send a check for something like $2400. Fortunately, for her and her husband, the intended buyer had difficulty sending the check d/t confusion over the address, but the check was drawn on a university out west. She just happened to be telling me the story and couldn't believe it when I told her this was a scam, that she/husband would be responsible when the check was proven to be no good. So, she went to rehearsal with the music ministry and asked THEM. They ALL told her not to do it.
She'd have been out $2400 when the bank came knocking. | |
