Embarrass WI
Somewhere I have a recipe from a now-closed diner that was well known for their tartar sauce, they served it with french fries.

I think it's hands down the best, much better than Culvers or any store bought tartar. Kraft tartar sauce is inedible to me.

I don't have the recipe handy, and it starts with a gallon of salad dressing, but here's the ingredients-

Salad dressing(Miracle Whip or equivalent)
chopped sweet pickles (or relish)
lemon juice
sugar
chopped onion

I haven't made it for years, basically since the kids left home, since it makes such a big batch and only keeps for so long.

Luckily, the local bar and grill makes their own tartar sauce and it's very very close, and they'll sell you a jar full of it, so that's what I do.
